This includes equities, fixed income, property (listed and non-listed), alternatives, cash and multi-asset. Within the multi-asset arena the team manages a range of risk-targeted portfolios. The Fund Solutions team manages assets for a variety of client types. It works closely with Sanlam Asset Management (Ireland) Limited to manage a number of the Sanlam Group’s Irish based vehicles. The Fund Solutions team manage products consisting of segregated accounts or underlying funds or combinations of the two.
For solutions consisting or requiring one or more investment managers (or underlying funds), the Fund Solutions team then considers the portfolio construction of the solution itself. This looks at the characteristics of the underlying investment managers in the context of the overall solution, and seeks to ensure that the solution is robust, time consistent and not subject to any unintended risks.
Finally, Fund Solutions conduct ongoing investment manager monitoring, in terms of both investment risk and adherence to the required parameters. This includes both formal and informal aspects through dialogue with the investment managers. The team also conducts formal periodic reviews of the solutions to make sure that the specific solution overall remains robust and is on course to achieve the agreed objectives. Where performance or other objectives are not achieved then the team will seek to replace appointed investment managers with superior offerings.

The Fund Solutions team’s investment process combines both quantitative and qualitative elements and seeks to deliver on clients’ objectives over the long-run. The investment process starts by establishing and understanding the clients’ needs and goals. From this the Fund Solutions team works to develop a solution that will meet the client’s requirements. Using its experience, the team in collaboration with the client decide on the strategy to adopt. Having established the investment objectives and medium through which the solution will be delivered, the team then progresses to the next part of its investment process.
The investment objectives will provide the direction required for the asset classes to be utilised, and working from that the team will then be able to move to one of the major components of its process, the investment manager research and selection stage. This initially starts with the identification of a universe of investment managers that the team gradually reduce through a disciplined and repeatable approach. The process researches a number of parts of the investment manager’s proposition, including but not limited to: the investment managers’ organisational history and structure; the investment team and people; the investment process; the portfolio characteristics; investment performance; and compliance and risk management.
